The Advanced Academy is an educational program designed to help archers of all ages learn more advanced archery techniques through hands-on application of USA Archery’s National Training System Method.
The National Training System (NTS) is the official method of shooting form that coaches, and instructors are required to learn to be certified by USA Archery. The NTS method was created by USA Archery Head Coach Kisik Lee and is based on his research and analysis of body control, muscular requirements, and mental concentration needed to generate a good shot. NTS is a more advanced shooting form that relies heavily on biomechanics, the study of how best to apply mechanical principles to human physiological actions.
While the Advanced Academy itself is not a formal Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD)/Adult Archery program, USA Archery has given the Advanced Academy permission to do approximately 3 – 4 practice/virtual tournaments during each 10-week session. Scores achieved during these practice/virtual tournaments are eligible for JOAD/Adult Achievement Awards (must be a member of USA Archery).
JOAD is a program of USA Archery that teaches archery to young people, provides great opportunities for awarding achievement, and helps archers to enjoy the sport recreationally or progress to the excitement of competition.
The Adult Archery Program is a logical “next step” for adult archers pursuing this lifetime sport. The program offers several unique benefits like making new friends, obtaining a great upper-body workout, and the chance to build self-confidence and learn team-building skills.
The purpose of the Advanced Academy is to provide an on-going learning environment and structured practice sessions for intermediate and above archers. The spring sessions are designed to prepare archers for the outdoor target archery season, while the fall sessions are designed to prepare archers for the indoor target season.
